Colusa softball falls short against Colfax

For the fourth straight game, the Colusa RedHawks struggled to get runs on the board, and, as a result, found themselves on the short end of a 2-1 score, as they fell to visiting Colfax on March 14.

Scoreless until the final inning, the Falcons got two aboard, then delivered a clutch two-out single to drive in both base runners.

Yet, Colusa rallied to cut the deficit to one, after Reese Roper led off the home half of the seventh, with a double, and scored when Naomi Silva put the ball in play and reached safely on a fielder’s choice.

But the RedHawks were unable to get any closer as they left the tying run on base.

In the circle, Avery Lay suffered another hard-luck loss, her third 2-1 setback in Colusa’s last three games.

Unquestionably, Lay pitched well enough to win, yielding just four hits, while striking out three, but as has been the case lately, did not get the necessary run support.

Abby Myers continued to swing a hot bat, going 2 for 3 on the day.

Now looking to right the ship, the RedHawks (3-6) commenced Sacramento Valley League play with a series against Paradise, which started at home on March 22 and will conclude Friday on the road.
