Colusa tennis drops two straight

Colusa’s Leo Bedolla returns a shot in the RedHawks’ match against Oroville on March 16. Bedolla won his match 6-0, 6-4, 10-6.

A young RedHawk tennis team learned a few lessons last week as they dropped home matches to Oroville and Live Oak, respectively.

Serving was the major difference in the 8-1 loss to the visiting Tigers on March 16, and although Colusa played competitively, only No. 2 Leo Bedolla was able to break through for a victory, outlasting his opponent 6-0, 4-6, 10-6.

Hosting the Lions in a league match the following day, the RedHawks came close, but ultimately succumbed 5-4.

Earning straight set wins was Bedolla in the No. 2 spot (7-6, 6-4), No. 3 Chris Rodriguez (6-0, 6-3) and No. 6 Rosendo Flores (6-1, 7-5).

Colusa’s No. 3 doubles team of Flores and Antonio Garcia emerged victorious, 8-6.

Despite the two setbacks, Coach Tina Lyons likes the growth her team is showing, saying, “We have a much better understanding of the game since the first match and are becoming more competitive.  The lower sections of the ladder are fighting to move up, which makes everyone better.”

The RedHawks (3-3) looked to get back on track in Willows on March 22 before hosting Paradise today.
