Colusa tennis rallies past Corning

Colusa’s Chris Rodriguez returns a shot in the RedHawks’ match against Corning on March 2. Rodriguez defeated his opponent 6-1, 6-0.

Playing at home last Tuesday in their second match of the season, the RedHawks breezed through their match with Corning, to come away with a 7-1-1 victory.

In singles, No. 2 Asa Smith wasted little time, downing his opponent in straight sets 6-0, 6-0, while No. 3 Chris Rodriguez dropped just one set en route to a 6-1, 6-0 win.

Also turning in strong efforts were No. 4 Alberto Leos, No. 5 Andy Lopez, and No. 6 Oziel Morales, who each triumphed in straight sets as well.

On the doubles courts, Colusa got wins from its No. 1 duo of Smith and Rodriguez (8-1) and the No. 3 combination of Leos and Morales (8-4), although the No. 2 match featuring Lopez and partner Leo Bedolla ended in a 5-5 tie due to darkness.

This week, the RedHawks (2-0) travel to Corning for a second go against the Cardinals today.
