Williams saw its six game winning streak come to an end in a 3-2 non-conference match in Orland on Feb. 1, but bounced back three days later on Feb. 4, with an 8-1 trouncing of visiting Redding Christian.
Against the Trojans, the ‘Jackets got on the board first as Adrian Solis found the back of the net, off an assist from Ernie Lemus, and then added another in the second half, as Solis set up Kaled Correa. But it wasn’t enough and the Trojans were able to come through with the game winner.
However, the Yellowjackets found their stride again when they returned to McCarl Field to face the Lions.
Jesus Gutierrez recorded a hat trick to lead Williams, who also got two goals from Omar Lomeli, and one apiece from Correa and Angel Villanueva, while a Hamilton “own goal” accounted for the eighth score.
With an overall record of 12-2, the ‘Jackets remain unbeaten in the Sacramento Valley League, but had a big test at home against Hamilton City on Monday, before closing out the regular season on the road in Durham on Wednesday. ■
