Colusas 9-11 year-old baseball team made short work of the competition at the District 2 Tournament in Browns Valley last week to claim the championship after outscoring its opponents 41-3 over three run-rule shortened contests.
After a first round bye, Colusa opened play on July 6 with a five inning 11-1 win over Peach Bowl.
Wyatt Roach led the way, going 3 for 3 at the plate with two doubles, in addition to striking out the side in each of the two innings he pitched.
Dane Codorniz went 2 for 2 with a pair of doubles and three RBI, while Tanner Nobles and Landon Miller also took to the mound, striking out two and four batters, respectively.
It was more of the same in the semifinal round on July 8, when Colusa needed just four innings to pound out a 16-1 win over Olivehurst-Linda.
Again it was Roach having a big game as he finished 2 for 3, scored four times, and drove in three runs, in addition to fanning four in two innings on the bump.
Closing out the game was Codorniz, who along with recording three strikeouts in two innings of work picked up two hits at the plate.
Also getting into the act was Miller, who doubled as part of a 2 for 3 day and Nick Alvarez, who tripled.
Colusa kept the bats going in the championship game on July 10, a rematch with Olivehurst-Linda that ended in four innings with the score 15-1.
Roach was 3 for 3, Miller and Codorniz both went 2 for 3 with three RBI, while Jax Lay drove in a pair of runs and scored twice.
On the hill, Roach recorded six strikeouts in three innings pitched, with Nobles working a frame and striking out two.
Colusa returns to action in Browns Valley on July 15, when it opens play in the Section Tournament against the District 26 team from McKinleyville.–
