Soccer Roundup

Girls:

Colusa 6 – Gridley 0 (12/16)

Colusa 2 – Orland 0 (12/17)

Colusa 0 – Sutter 0 (12/20)

Not shying away from larger school competition in the preseason, the RedHawks posted two shutout wins early last week before playing Sutter to a draw in Saturday’s match.

Colusa’s Itzel Cruz recorded a hat trick in the RedHawks’ win over Gridley on Dec. 16.

At home against Gridley, Itzel Cruz led the way with a hat trick, while Natalee Stegall, Liz Ayala and Janell Garcia scored one goal apiece.

In Orland the following day, Cruz and Stegall each found the back of the net, which was enough to lift Colusa over the Trojans, a team they had lost to 0-1 just four days prior.

In their final contest before the winter break, the RedHawks played a highly competitive match against visiting Sutter that ended in a draw.

Deserving of extra commendation in those matches is the Colusa defense and in particular freshman goalkeeper Monica Gurerrero, who kept three clean sheets.

The RedHawks’ freshman goalkeeper Monica Guerrero kept clean sheets in all three of Colusa’s matches last week.

Now 4-4-1 on the year, the RedHawks return to action on Jan. 5 at home against Hamilton City.

Pierce 5 – Gridley 2 (12/15)

Pierce 0 – Live Oak 5 (12/16)

Putting forth its highest offensive production of the season, a young Pierce squad downed Gridley, but couldn’t replicate the success against an always tough Live Oak squad.

Pierce freshman Anayeli Acevedo scored a goal in the Bears’ win over Gridley on Dec. 15.

Sophia Oliveros scored a brace with Sofia Hernandez, Anayeli Acevedo and Olivia Dudley contributing a goal apiece in the win.

Emma Chandler, Frances Sweet and Acevedo each took a turn in goal for the Bears.

Pierce enters its winter break with a 2-4 record and will play its final preseason match in Oroville on Jan. 6.

Williams 1 – Orland 4 (12/16)

In its only match last week, Caitlyn Ruiz scored off an assist from Daisy Ruiz for the Yellowjackets’ only goal against the Trojans.

Williams (1-3) continues with preseason play with a match in Willows on Jan. 15.

Boys:

Pierce 2 – Gridley 1 (12/15)

Pierce 1 – Live Oak 0 (12/16)

Although no statistics were made available, the Bears continued their strong start to the season with wins over Gridley and Live Oak.

Winners of four straight, Pierce (5-1) resumes play on Jan. 6 in Oroville.

Colusa 1 – Gridley 6 (12/16)

Colusa 1 – Orland 4 (12/17)

Colusa 4 – Sutter 1 (12/20)

Having dropped its first two matches last week, Colusa bounced back on Saturday to defeat Sutter.

Romeo Ponce and Lucio Preciado accounted for the RedHawks’ only goals in respective losses to Gridley and Orland.

However, Colusa got a hat trick from Eric Gonzalez and an additional goal from Kevin Jauregui in its victory over the Huskies.

Now on a two-week holiday, the RedHawks (2-6-1) will be back in action on Jan. 5 against Hamilton City at home.

Williams 1 – Orland 8 (12/16)

Suffering its worst loss since 2023, the Yellowjackets (3-1-1) hope to regroup during their break and comeback strong on Jan. 15 when they head to Willows to take on the Honkers.
