Princeton battles but drops 2 at Block LM Tourney

Princeton’s Tito Reynoso, shown in a photo from earlier this month, has been a key part of the Eagles’ offense this season.

A short-handed Eagles’ team saw its win streak come to an end last week in Los Molinos when, after winning the opener against Biggs at the Block LM Tournament, the team fell to Quincy and Redding Christian in the final two games, despite putting an impressive number of points on the board.

In the 79-60 victory over the Wolverines, both teams pushed the pace and exhibited equal intensity, but All-Tournament selection Junior Andrade was the difference maker, posting a double-double with 27 points and 11 assists.

Sharpshooting Tito Reynoso hit five threes and finished with 17 points, while Corwyn Roberson remained an active presence, adding 16 points.

Down two starters the following night against Quincy, the Eagles hung tough until midway through the final period, when the Trojans pulled away to hand Princeton a 75-101 loss, its first of the season.

Andrade turned in a Herculean effort, pouring in 40 points, which included going 10 for 13 from the free throw line. Reynoso went for 15 after drilling five more threes, and Alex Winn grabbed seven rebounds.

Despite the loss, Coach Jordan Dillard reported that some of his first-year players played well as they stepped in to fill the vacant spots.

To round out the tournament, the Eagles suffered a 54-64 setback to Redding Christian in a back-and-forth affair.

Roberson recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, Andrade tossed in 15 points and dished out nine assists, while Reynoso added 13 points to the total.

Now heading into its winter break, Princeton (6-2, 1-0) returns to the court on Jan. 10, when the Eagles host Pioneer League rival Herlong.
