After suffering a stinging 9-5 Sacramento Valley League defeat on the road in Durham April 12, the RedHawks softball team returned home three days later and exacted its revenge with a 12-2 run-rule shortened win over the Trojans.
Heading into the game, Durham had been winless on the season, but they certainly didn’t play like it, as they held the RedHawks in check.
Colusa did get back-to-back hits in the third, first from Avery Lay, who plated one, then another, off the bat of Brooklyn Bradbury to drive in a pair. Â
Abby Myers came through with a two-out, two-run triple in the top of the seventh, but the RedHawks could get no closer.
However, it was a different story in the series finale on April 15, as Colusa took advantage of Trojan miscues to reach base, and then ramped up the pressure by stealing at every opportunity.
Held to just three hits in the first game, the RedHawk bats heated up at home as Carly Simmons, Ava Garcia, and Abby Wolf each finished 3 for 4.
Another change in the RedHawk strategy for the second game was in the circle, where Lay got the nod, striking out three and limiting the Trojans to just three hits over five innings.
With the win, Colusa (9-8, 6-3) stands second in the SVL and this week began a series with Willows (9-5, 5-3), on Tuesday on the road and ends Friday at home. â–
