Pierce Softball Learning the Ropes

ARBUCKLE, CA  (MPG) – With just two seniors on the roster, a young Bears’ softball team is navigating the ups and downs that goes with inexperience on the diamond as

after routing Anderson 12-2 to start last week, they went 1-2 at the Maxwell Tournament where they beat up on Esparto before falling to South Fork and the host Panthers.

Playing at home against Anderson, Isela Ambriz tossed a complete game and struck out six to get the win in the circle.

At the plate, Sofia Rubio went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI while Ambriz, Kendall Mulqueeny and Lily Lievanos collected a hit apiece.

In Maxwell, Pierce took advantage of 20 walks issued by Esparto pitching to crush the Spartans 21-1 in the opener.

Ariana Ambriz doubled to lead the offense, while in the circle Isela Ambriz surrendered three hits and struck out five over three innings of work.

Yet the Bears found the going a little tougher in their last two games of the tournament, stumbling against South Fork and Maxwell by the same score of 1 -11.

Cierra Dye went 2-for-2 in the loss to South Fork as Isela Ambriz, Jocelyn Ramos and Lyla Maldonado each had one hit.

In the contest against the Panthers, Dye had a hit and scored the lone run, while Isela Ambriz accounted for Pierce’s only other hit.

This week the journey continues for the Bears (2-3) who hosted Princeton on Mar. 11 and Williams on Mar. 12 before heading south to play Woodland today.
