On the road in Hamilton City last Friday night, the Williams Yellowjackets recorded a 66-24 blowout victory over the Braves to extend their win streak to seven games,
In the process, Williams captured the Mid-Valley League championship, for the first time since 2014.
It was another offensive outpouring for the ‘Jackets, who finished 5-0 in MVL play, by outscoring their opponents 202-56.
For the second straight week, Jayr Ramirez put up huge numbers to lead the offense, carrying 18 times for 271 yards and scoring four times.
Ramirez has rushed for 1013 yards this season and accounted for 13 touchdowns.
Also having a big night in Hamilton City, was quarterback Omar Lomeli, who in addition to running for 193 yards and two touchdowns, completed eight passes for 107 yards, connecting with both Sam Lopez and Jose Campos on long scoring plays.
Williams again eclipsed the 500-yard mark on offense, as they accrued 571 yards against the Braves.
The ‘Jacket defense did its part in the win as well, behind linebacker Lorenzo Ruvalcaba, who collected 17 tackles for the game.
Defensive back Miguel Rivera made two interceptions, including a 70-yard pick six, while Ty Howell and Mateo Gutierrez each recovered a fumble.
With an overall record of 8-2, Williams is the No. 3 seed in the Northern Section CIF Division IV playoffs and will host No. 8 East Nicolaus (3-6) at McCarl Field on Friday night with kickoff set for 7 PM..
While on paper it looks like it will be a relatively easy task, the Spartans have recently shaken up their coaching staff, bringing back the group that made East Nic one of the dominant forces in the section between 2015 and 2019.
Still, Williams, who last beat the Spartans during the 2014 regular season, is looking forward to the match up and a chance to knock off the team that has ended its playoff hopes on five different occasions. ■
