MAXWELL, CA (MPG) – With the baseball regular season completed last month, Mid-Valley All-League honors were conferred upon four Maxwell baseball players after the Panthers finished tied for second place with a record of 7-3.

Senior Massey Baker heads the contingent which also includes junior Yahir Alcaraz along with sophomores Vincent Orozco and Colt Montgomery.
Baker was Maxwell’s workhorse on the mound, tossing 22 innings where he held league opponents to a .165 batting average, while recording 34 strikeouts and finishing with a 2.51 ERA.
Alcaraz, who led the Panthers in on base plus slugging (OPS) with 1.154, hit .400 in the MVL and drove in 10 runs, then additionally maintained a 2.74 ERA in 15.1 innings of work on the mound.

For his part, Orozco ended conference play with a .348 batting average and got some experience pitching as well, having thrown nine innings where he had a 3.89 ERA.

Last but certainly not least, Montgomery, who was a warrior behind the plate, registered a perfect fielding percentage against MVL foes while hitting .250 with six RBI.

On the season as a whole, Maxwell finished with its first 20-win season since 2014, was the Northern Section CIF Division VI runner-up and earned a berth in the CIF NorCal Championships, although it fell in the first round to eventual champion Etna by a score of 0 -6.
