Sex Offender Jailed for Parole Violation

COLUSA, CA (MPG) – A known Colusa County sex offender will spend the holidays in jail after he once again failed to comply with the terms of his parole.

Colusa County Superior Court Judge Jeffrey A. Thompson on Dec. 11 sentenced 49-year-old Eric Scott Harrington, of Arbuckle, to 120 days in jail after he absconded supervision and failed to notify authorities of his whereabouts.

Harrington was originally sentenced in 2011 to eight years in prison after pleading no contest to a single felony charge of sexual penetration of an unconscious person, in a plea deal with the Yuba County District Attorney’s Office that dismissed 13 felony charges related to allegations that he drugged and raped a 15-year-old Marysville girl when he was 34.

Harrington has been in and out of jail since his release from state prison in 2014 after serving only three years.

Colusa County District Attorney Matthew Beauchamp last week had asked the judge for a 180-day sentence for Harrington’s most recent act of bucking authority.

Harrington served three other stints in jail for failure to comply with the terms of his parole, including a 77-day stay in the Yuba County Jail in 2019, a 127-day stint in the Butte County Jail in 2019, and another 90-day stay in Yuba County Jail in 2021, court records indicate.

In 2022, a Yuba County Judge sentenced the convicted felon to 16 months in jail after Harrington pleaded no contest to possession of a rifle.

According to the Megan’s Law registry, Harrington has a moderate to elevated risk of repeating a sexual offense.

In 2017, the Yuba County District Attorney’s office levied seven felony charges against Harrington, including forcible rape, but the case was dismissed.

In the 2010 case involving the Marysville teenager, then Yuba City Sheriff Steve Durfor said Harrington was acquainted with the girl when he incapacitated her with alcohol, marijuana, and prescription medication and then had sexual intercourse with her while she was unconscious.
