COLUSA, CA (MPG) – For the second year in a row Colusa’s Luke Kalfsbeek has been selected as the Northern Section’s Most Valuable Player, joining Winters’ Adrian Garcia (2000-2001) as the only other player in recent history to earn the honor in back-to-back seasons.

Kalfsebeek’s numbers tell the story as the tall lefty finished with a miniscule 0.44 ERA, which was third in the section and 20th in the state, then after coming away with 11 wins, tied Maxwell’s Tyler Wells (2008-2011) for the lead in career wins with 37.
Additionally, despite throwing a significantly less number of innings (64.1), Kalfsbeek was tops in the section with 11 wins and 13th in the state, while also recording 121 strikeouts, which was second in the NSCIF and 12th in the state.
It was without question a fitting end to a stellar four years in Colusa for the University of Washington bound Kalfsbeek, who in 217.1 innings on the mound between 2021 and 2024 accrued a 0.84 ERA and 359 strikeouts, leaving him just 24 short of the all-time NSCIF record of 383, held by Princeton’s Ben Wilkins (1991-1994), who put in 234 innings of work for the Eagles.
A fixture on the RedHawks’ recent dynasty, Kalfsbeek also helped his cause along way by maintaining a career batting average of .383, an OPS of 1.057 and scoring 138 runs.
To cap his high school career, Kalfsbeek was also named the Small School Most Outstanding Player for the North squad at the Sacramento Breakfast Optimist Club All-Star game on June 9.
