Potential Power Shutoffs Loom This Week

COLUSA, CA (MPG) – Pacific Gas and Electric Co. is monitoring weather conditions that could lead to targeted Public Safety Power Shutoffs this week in portions of Colusa, Glenn, Lake, Napa, Sonoma, Sutter, Tehama and Yolo counties.

PG&E announced that approximately 4,940 customers could be impacted if forecasted weather conditions develop as expected. The utility said high temperatures, strong winds and dry vegetation have created conditions that increase wildfire risk.

The potential weather event is expected to begin Wednesday morning and could continue through Thursday. If implemented, this would mark PG&E’s second Public Safety Power Shutoff event of 2026.

PG&E began sending advance notifications Monday evening to customers in areas being monitored for possible outages. The company said the final decision on whether to shut off power, along with the duration and location of outages, will depend on actual weather conditions.

In Colusa County, the potential shutoffs could affect customers in areas served by PG&E’s wildfire mitigation program. The federally recognized Cortina Rancheria and Grindstone Rancheria also could be impacted.

Public Safety Power Shutoffs are used when fire weather conditions become severe enough that energized power lines could increase the risk of a wildfire. PG&E said the goal is to reduce the threat of catastrophic wildfires during periods of extreme weather.

If outages occur, PG&E said it will work with local officials to open Community Resource Centers in heavily affected areas. The centers provide residents with a climate-controlled location where they can charge medical equipment and electronic devices, receive updated information about the outage and access essential supplies.

Resources available at Community Resource Centers may include water, snacks, blankets, ADA-accessible restrooms and grab-and-go bags containing basic supplies and information about the power shutoff.

Customers can check whether their address is being monitored for a potential Public Safety Power Shutoff by visiting http://pge.com/pspsupdates. Information about Community Resource Center locations and outage updates will also be available through PG&E’s outage center.
