COLUSA, CA (MPG) – A long standing tradition in the Colusa Unified School District continues through the “You Inspired Me” award, which recognizes former district employees in any capacity for the lasting impact they made on students and the community.
The program was established through a donation from Colusa alumnus Ben King, Class of 1977. Each award includes a bronze plaque placed in a designated section of the donor wall at the Colusa High School football complex.
King attended last Friday night’s event to present awards he personally sponsored to the families of John Diest and Salvador Arce.
John Diest served as a fifth-grade teacher for 29 years and was instrumental in developing the Colusa Youth Soccer Program before soccer became an official sport at Colusa High School. His work in building the program from the ground up was remembered as an enduring testament to the care and commitment Diest showed toward soccer, his students and the youth of Colusa.
Salvador Arce was recognized for his role as a longtime custodian and dedicated supporter of the Colusa High School community. Known for his positive attitude and willingness to help, Arce was remembered fondly by those who worked alongside him.
Although quiet and small in stature, Arce was praised as “a giant of a man” who consistently shared kind words and took pride in helping make the school a welcoming place for students to learn and grow.
