Dale Dunlap

 7/31/1932 – 1/28/2024
Graveside services will be held at the Paradise Cemetery on Friday, Feb. 9 for Dale Edward Dunlap, who passed away on January 28, 2024 at the age of 91 1/2 years of age.
Dale was born July 31, 1932, in Hammond, Indiana to Howard Leroy Dunlap and Evelyn Elizabeth (Pratt) Dunlap. His family moved to Burbank, California when he was six years old. Dale’s best friend was his dad and they enjoyed fishing, bowling, golfing, and attending horse races together. Dale graduated from John Burroughs High School in 1950. He loved sports and played football, basketball, and baseball.
He served in the U.S. Navy as a radio operator from 1952-1954 during the Korean War. He married Patsy Lou Prince on August 2, 1952. He and Pat moved to Visalia and Dale graduated from Fresno State University in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture.
Dale worked in San Mateo for Walcott Seed Company and later in Williams opening Dunlap Seed Company. He and Pat raised a son and three daughters. In 1976 they moved to Butte County. They lived in Chico, Forest Ranch, and Paradise. Dale had a firewood business, car detailing, and raised thoroughbred horses for racing. His love of sports kept him playing Senior League Baseball. He was in a classic car club and active in church.
Dale is survived by Pat, his wife, of 71 years: his brother Robert (Bob) and wife Soni Dunlap, sister Marilyn Patricia (Pat) and husband Paul Sorenson, and a sister Beverly Marlin; his children and their spouses: Mal and Susan Dunlap, Lyn and Steve Moore, Diana and Michael DeSpain, and Nick and Dawn Swithenbank. Dale is also survived by thirteen grandchildren and thirty-four great grandchildren.
Dale will be remembered for his faithfulness and love for his family, upbeat outlook on life, his love for sports, horses, classic cars, and his faith. The family’s greatest joy at this time is to have the assurance that Dale is at home with the Lord.
