Pierce 3 – Willows 2 (10/6)
Pierce 1 – Durham 3 (10/8)

A roller coaster of a season continued for Pierce as they edged visiting Willows 23-25, 25-12, 25-23, 19-2515-11, before falling 25-23, 18-25, 19-25, 21-25 in a match also played at home.

Against the Honkers, Rylie Delepierre had another big night logging 21 kills and three blocks, but so did one of the team’s four sophomores, Presli Harris who recorded a double-double with 33 assists and 16 digs.

Defensively, Leslye Velazquez and Lyla Maldonado made their presence felt as well with 22 and 13 digs respectively.

Facing the Trojans two nights later, the Bears started strong, taking the first set and surprising the visitors who may have underestimated the Pierce squad.

The Bears’ Riley Delepierre has been the most potent weapon on the attack this season, most recently registering 21 and 16 kills in respective matches against Willows and Durham.

Moving into the second set, it looked like the Bears might be on the way to taking a 2-0 lead in the match after winning the first seven points, however momentum turned on a dime and Durham went on to even things up.

Then, having dropped the third by the greatest deficit in the match, Pierce showed some grit in the fourth, although miscues ultimately sealed its fate and allowed the Trojans to steal the set.

It was a frustrating setback for the Bears, as Coach Lauren Ornbaun explained, “It’s tough because we had a chance. We just made too many unforced errors.”

Delepierre held her own against a formidable Durham front row coming away with 16 kills and six blocks, Audrey Weber registered a double-double with 18 assists and 12 digs, while Velazquez also made 12 digs.

Harris handed out 10 assists and made nine digs, with Myers accounting for 10 digs.

Playing both matches without their leading hitter Abby Coronado, Peyton Miller and Lauren Gomez picked up the slack against the winless Warriors accounting for 11 and eight kills respectively.

On a night where the RedHawks served 17 aces as a team, Leyla Avera recorded eight and Cindel Oliver had five. The pair, who also share the setting duties, made other significant contributions as well, with Avera handing out 17 assists and 10 digs while Oliver dished out 11 assists.
