VACAVILLE, CA (MPG) – Cross Country teams from Williams and Colusa made their way to Vacaville High School’s Lagoon Valley Classic last Saturday, where they contended against athletes from the Northern, Sac-Joaquin and North Coast sections.
In the largest race of the day with 163 participants, the ‘Jackets Manny and Phillip Santillan, both ran season best times of 18:27 and 19:53 respectively in the varsity boys event.
Colusa made its presence felt in the JV boys two-mile competition, where Bryan Sarabia medaled after recording a personal best time of 12:13.8 to finish ninth in a field of 131.
A kettle of RedHawks that followed ended the race in the top third with personal best times included Jax Lay (14:10), Zachary Vazquez (14:12) and Brock Prior (14:26).
Williams’ freshman Jeremiah Perez crossed the line ninth in a time of 12:45 in the two-mile frosh race, earning his second medal in as many weeks.
Meanwhile, the girl’s division, Colusa’s Alexia Carmona (18:14) and Leina Awai (18:44) were among the 90 running in the JV race, while Lucia Virido-Mederos collected some hardware in the frosh/soph race after posting a time of 15:51.7, which was good for twenty-second place.
Next up for Colusa harriers is the Las Plumas Invite at the Oroville Forebay on Sept. 11, while Williams will run at the Nevada Union Invitational in Grass Valley on Sept. 12.
