This is how we build community.
Twenty-two years ago, a simple idea took root: gather people together, share something good, and let that goodness ripple outward to support our libraries. We called it a wine tasting, but it has always been something more enduring than a glass raised on a spring afternoon. It is a tradition built on generosity, relationships, and a shared belief that small communities can do extraordinary things when they say “yes” to one another.
In those early days, we reached out to neighbors who made wine not just as a craft, but as a reflection of place and people. Wineries like Capay Valley Vineyards, Holly’s Hill, and Grindstone answered that call. Over time, others joined in, including Sweetheart, Balestra Family, and Pressley. Each “yes” expanded the circle, turning a local event into a living example of community in motion. This year, we are delighted to welcome a new friend, Serres Ranch Wine from Sonoma County, a family with roots stretching back to 1924. Their story now becomes part of ours.
That spirit of generosity extends beyond the vineyards. For years, Rumiano Cheese in Willows helped anchor the event with their beautiful offerings. As they have stepped away, Sierra Nevada Cheese in Artois has stepped forward, continuing the tradition with the same warmth and quality. We are also excited to feature Matthew Flaherty of Winters, a young organic olive oil producer who brings both knowledge and passion, inviting guests to experience California olive oil in a whole new way.
Woven throughout the afternoon are small moments of delight, including drawings that reflect our shared love of stories. One especially meaningful piece is a signed first edition of A Family of Poems by Caroline Kennedy, a collection that carries echoes of history, family, and reflection. It feels especially fitting to offer a book as a treasure at an event dedicated to sustaining literacy and access.
On May 2 at noon, in the garden outside the Scout Cabin, we will gather once again. There will be laughter, conversation, and the quiet, steady work of strengthening the ties that hold us together. This event is not just something to attend, it is something to belong to.
We will be there, ready to welcome you. And when you come, you become part of the story.
Thank you, as always, for helping us build a community that shows up for one another.
