The RedHawks took a pair of close ones from the Trojans as they opened Sacramento Valley League play last week.

Late inning heroics in the eighth were required to get past Durham in the first meeting between the two squads as Marlie Berry’s walk-off single plated Zaylah Ramirez, who had reached on an error.
Berry and Natalee Stegall collected two hits apiece, as did Bella Romero, who also tossed a complete game in the circle.
Peyton Miller’s sacrifice fly set up Colusa by allowing pinch runner Maci Garofalo to tag and score the tying run.
Completing the series in Durham two days later, Colusa was outhit by the Trojans, but the RedHawks took advantage of the long ball with Berry and Miller each launching home runs.
Miller ended the day 3 for 4 with four RBI, Berry drove in three and Stegall picked up two more hits.
Romero again handled the pitching duties.
Seeking to build on the momentum, Colusa (7-6, 2-0) had three conference games this week having hosted Paradise on March 30 before traveling to Winters the following day and completing the series with the Warriors at home on April 3.

After picking up a pair of wins on opening day at the Biggs Tournament, Maxwell dropped its next two games, before bouncing back in the finale to finish 3-2.

Against Plumas Charter, Kali Maltby, Jada Lazarus, Emma Miller and Bianca Minutti each had a hit and an RBI, while Miller also went the four innings in the circle, fanning four.
Miller picked up her second win of the day, recording four more strikeouts as the Panthers doubled up Weed.
Sophia Lopez doubled twice with Minutti and Ruby Herrera garnering Maxwell’s two other hits.
Although statistics from the loss to St. Bernard’s were not available, Lopez, Miller and Herrera recorded hits in the setback to Trinity.
Rounding out play at the Biggs Tournament, Lazarus had a nice day at the plate against Fall River finishing 2 for 3 with a triple and two RBI, while Miller doubled then helped her cause in the circle by striking out nine.
Mid-Valley League competition commences this week for the Panthers (6-8-1) as they made the trek to Portola for a doubleheader with the Tigers on April 3.
Pierce 1 – East Nicolaus 14 (3/27)
In its only game last week, the Bears made the trip to Trowbridge to complete their SVL series with the Spartans but things didn’t go their way.
Statistics from the loss were not available by the Pioneer Review print deadline.
Pierce (3-8, 0-2) hosted Paradise on March 31 before heading to “The Ridge” on Thursday for their second game against the Bobcats.
