The Colusa County Free Library Friends group invites the community to its annual Friends of the Library meeting on Tuesday, February 24, at 6:00pm. Here members and supporters will gather to elect officers for the coming year and celebrate the vibrant role the Friends play in enriching library services. Head over to the Main Branch Library in Colusa for an evening of community, conversation, and library support. Refreshments and social time will precede a brief business meeting, and guest author.
This year’s program will feature keynote speaker Bob Dunning, a beloved Davis journalist and longtime columnist known for chronicling community life with warmth, wit, and keen observation. Dunning spent 54 years as a daily columnist and sportswriter for the “Davis Enterprise”, producing thousands of columns that captured local stories, sports moments, and the everyday characters that define a town. His enduring impact on the community was celebrated with a parade in his honor, and he now continues writing independently, connecting with readers through his Substack newsletter.
Friends’ accomplishments in 2025 included purchasing over $9,000 of new books, which added almost 350 titles to library shelves across the county. The Friends also strengthened digital access, supporting library e-materials through Hoopla, which saw 3,545 digital borrows by Colusa County patrons, extending library services beyond its walls into homes throughout the community.
The Friends’ signature community events included the annual Wine Tasting, Lifelong Readers Book Club and several engaging authors evenings. These gatherings have become favorites for supporters who enjoy books, conversation, and shared community experiences. The Friends also run the Bookworm Used Bookstore. In 2025 it expanded hours, offering increased weekend access designed to better serve families, students, and working residents.
Members and community residents alike are encouraged to attend, join the Friends, and take part in electing the officers who will guide the organization’s work in the year ahead. The annual meeting is both a celebration of what the Friends make possible and an invitation to help shape the library’s future.
