Colusa Girls Eye SVL Crown

COLUSA, CA (MPG) – Riding an 11-game win streak that started back on Dec. 15, the Colusa girls’ basketball team is eyeing its first Sacramento Valley League title since the 2014-15 season and got a little closer to its goal last week with wins over Winters, Live Oak, and Paradise.

At home against Winters, Danica Chavez, who has finished in double figures in 21 of the RedHawks’ 22 games, added to her growing point total with 25 in the 44-26 win over the Warriors.

Olivia Huskey pitched in with 10 points for Colusa, while Elle Faris and Addison Lay pulled down eight rebounds apiece.

Following up against Live Oak two nights later, Chavez had a game-high 19 points, and Carlie Sanchez added seven in the 49-34 triumph.

In its final game last week, the RedHawks doubled up, visiting Paradise 44-22 behind 24 points from Chavez.

McKenna Azbill and Alena Sanchez each finished with seven points in the Homecoming win.

With five games remaining in the regular season, Colusa (17-5, 8-0) looked to remain unbeaten in the SVL when it hosted East Nicolaus on Tuesday ahead of tonight’s home match up with Willows.
