Lloyd J. Nokes Jr.

Lloyd J. Nokes of Colusa passed away on Jan. 25, 2023, at the age of 74. He was born on June 29, 1948, to Lloyd J. Nokes Sr. and Maxine Nokes in Colusa. Lloyd was a Colusa boy from the beginning to the end.

“PeeWee” as his father affectionately nicknamed him attended schools in Colusa and completed his education in the military. He later completed two years of college.

He volunteered for the Army on March 2, 1966, at the age of 17. He spent his eighteenth birthday on a ship headed for Vietnam.

PeeWee had many jobs. But the one he enjoyed the most was following in his father’s footsteps and driving a cement truck for Cortina Rock. He retired from Frontier Communication Telephone Company after 27 years. He was a man of many talents – a carpenter, cement finisher, plumber, electrician, welder – all around handyman. He was always helping someone build or repair whatever they needed. He took great pride in growing his vegetable garden.

He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, June; son, Duane (Lucy) Nokes of Yuba City; daughter, Stacie (Kevin) Bayless of Colusa; his sisters, Debra (Dave) Sutherlin and Paula (Julius) Ferraiuolo of Colusa; brothers, Dale (Nancy) Nokes of Colusa and Milford Nokes of Princeton; his grandchildren, Chelsea (Tylor) Peryea, Tuff Nokes, Olivia and Corinne Belser of Yuba City; honorary grandchildren Max and Chloe Ferraiuolo of Colusa; great-granddaughter, Aria Peryea of Yuba City.

PeeWee was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd Sr. and Maxine and his brother, James Nokes.

A celebration of life will be held at the Colusa Veteran’s Hall on Sunday, Feb. 26, 2023, at 2 PM. Per his request, in lieu of flowers a memorial contribution can be made in his name to the V.F.W. Post 2441 PO Box 1354 Colusa, CA 95932. He fought a long, hard battle against “Agent Orange” and strongly believed that all veterans should be honored and helped.■
