It’s been a heck of a week here in the frozen tundra of North Dakota.
The worst is over for a while as far as storms go, but now it’s dig out and clean up tine after a couple of feet of snow covered most of the state.
My Southern California husband shoveled and shoveled. He may have said a few big words from time to time as the snow buried his outdoor Christmas decorations.
Then help came. Friends Scott Trotter and Ron Zachman showed up with shovel and bobcat and cleared the way out. That night, more snow and wind buried us again. Then we heard the snow blower outside. Neighbor Mark Hardy was digging us out again. The city cleared the street and Tom finished the driveway with a shovel.
Such is the winter challenge in North Dakota, but so also is the blessings we have. The people here are willing to lend a helping hand.
Tom and I are identified as the older generation. We believe in trying our best, but we’d still be digging without the helping hands around us.
Now we are in Christmas week and we are grateful for our lives and our blessings. Tomorrow, our grandsons will be a part of the church Christmas program. What better way to end this week of challenge. It’s time to reflect and renew our hearts in the joy of the boy child in a manager.
Life is good today indeed. ■
