Traveling to Woodland last week, the Lady Bears made a strong showing at the Warren Meyer Classic with wins over Amador and Anderson, before dropping a close one to Ponderosa in the championship game.
Pierce opened play with a 56-46 triumph over Amador, despite finding itself down five points at the end of the first quarter.
And although the Bears took a narrow lead into halftime, they opened things up with a big third quarter to pull away from the Buffaloes.
Last season’s Northern Section scoring leader Jocelyn Medina logged another double-double with 26 points and 14 rebounds, then dished out nine assists for good measure.
Jazzy Condrey tossed in 15 points, while Kallie Stassi grabbed 10 boards and pitched in with nine points in the win.
Facing Anderson in its second game, Pierce prevailed 62-52, as Medina led the way with a triple-double which included 26 points, 10 assists, and 11 rebounds.
Cindy Corona finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds, for her first double-double of the season, and Condrey added an additional 12 points.
In the finale, the Bears found themselves on the short end of a 57-54 score, as untimely turnovers in the waning minutes proved to be the difference.
Medina continued her assault on the section career scoring record, dropping in 28 points, while Condrey made another significant contribution, ending the game with 15 points to her credit.
Pierce (6-1) continues the tournament season this week in Orland. ■
