Approximately 643 events were logged by Williams Police Department officers during the month of April, which included calls for service, proactive enforcement, and extra patrol. This was a decrease from March, in which there were approximately 716 events, reported Lt. Chris Miller.
For April, there were 54 reports initiated, 23 misdemeanor arrests, and 10 felony arrests. This was in addition to 45 citations issued for various traffic violations and misdemeanor charges. Also in April, officers recovered two firearms during traffic stops. Miller said one was a loaded Glock pistol that a suspect concealed in his waistband while fleeing and resisting officers. The weapon was stolen out of El Dorado County. The second firearm was a sawed-off shotgun that had its serial numbers removed. The weapon was located under the seat of a vehicle following a traffic stop, which led to the vehicle being impounded.
Williams has one new officer completing field training and two new police officers are expected to be sworn in on June 14 directly from the Butte College Police Academy. ■
