In Winters on March 23, the Colusa RedHawks varsity track team joined the host Warriors, along with squads from East Nicolaus and Willows, to compete in the second Sacramento Valley League meet.
It was the best performance thus far for the RedHawks, as they garnered seven first place finishes and set six personal records in the process.
Colusa’s boys’ team outran the competition in most events starting with Kevin Sarabia and Neo Harter who posted two wins apiece.
Sarabia took the 800 meter race in a personal best time of 2:23.9, then was first in the 1600, crossing the line in 5:16.7, and rounded out the competition with a mark of 1:00.7 in the 400 meters, which was good for third.
Harter, in his inaugural appearance in hurdles, claimed both the 110-meter and 300 meter races with personal records of 19.9 and 49.0 respectively, while also finishing third in the long jump (16’10).
Cody Korgelos set a personal record in the 100 meters, with a winning time of 11.6, and then finished second in the long jump, with a leap of 18’7. 5, his best so far this season.
Ariel Palisoc (12.5) took third in the 100 while in the 200 meters; Jacob Cerney (25.9) set a personal record and placed second.
In discus, Jose Garcia was the runner-up with a throw of 85’2.
For the varsity girls, Salma Gonzales again topped all challengers in the throwing events setting a personal record to win the shot with a toss of 28’7.5 and also claimed first in discus with a mark of 83’2.
This week the RedHawks were at Yuba College on Wednesday for the third SVL meet, before heading to Durham on Friday to compete in their own Vern Regier Invitational. ■
