A short-handed Panther squad gave it everything it had last Friday night at home against CORE Butte, but ended up on the short end of a 52-23 score.
In a battle for third place in the Five-Star League, the height and strength of the Lynx was too much for Maxwell, who was without the Northern Section’s leading rebounder Fatima Cano, and then saw its top scorer Emma Hendrix go down with an injury just before halftime.
Yet, the Panthers continued to play hard and made an admirable effort for the remainder of the contest.
Hendrix finished with five points, all coming in the first quarter, while Perla Herrera and Bailee Haywood each pitched in with four points.
Maxwell (7-14, 3-4) defeated Chester 41-23 earlier last week, and rounds out the regular season when it hits the road to play Los Molinos on Feb. 8, before returning home to face Redding Christian on Feb. 11. â–
