In the late game at Gregg LeMaster Field last Thursday, the Pierce and Colusa girls soccer teams played to a 1-1 draw in a Sacramento Valley League match, after each scored a first half goal, although neither could break through for the game winner.
Josslyn Santana delivered the first score of the game as the RedHawks dominated possession early on, but Pierce’s Adelyn Flores came through with the equalizer, a shot to the back post just beyond the dive of RedHawk goalkeeper Briana Pinon, with four minutes remaining in the half.
It was the second tie of the week for the Bears, who two days earlier came back from two goals down to pull even with Willows in a home match.
With a roster made up primarily of freshmen and sophomores, Pierce (0-6-3, 0-3-2), despite making noticeable progress, is still searching for its first win of the season, and had the unenviable task of facing Winters, a perennial power and the first place team in the SVL on Tuesday.
Meanwhile Colusa (5-8-2, 1-2-2), who sits fourth in the SVL, hosted a powerful Live Oak team on Tuesday and takes on Winters at home today. ■
