Having last played on October 24, 2019, the Williams Yellowjacket volleyball team is eager to resume action after foregoing last season.
Williams, under the direction of coach Mingy Altamirano, has no returning varsity players, but is a cohesive group that has played together in the past, going 21-3-1 at the JV level, and are very much looking forward to getting back on the court.
” The girls are very excited. They cant wait,” said Altamirano, who enters her second year teaching at her alma mater and also makes her volleyball coaching debut this season.

As for the composition of her team, Altamirano likes its athleticism and versatility, which gives her more flexibility in the rotation.
To direct the offense, the ËœJackets will primarily look to a pair of juniors in Gigi Vega and Trinity Tungasmita should they choose to go with a 6-2 system.
Playing all the way around is a distinct possibility for a number of players including senior Gabby Lopez, in addition to Tungasmita along with fellow juniors Alexa Barrera, Ashley Garica and Linda Rivera.
Also seeing time at the net will be juniors Emily Arreola and Steffany Garcia.
Riley Brunner, the teams only other senior, will play a role in the back row where she swings with authority from behind the 10 foot line.
A major challenge for the ËœJackets will be overcoming a lack of game experience due in part to missing last season as well as their participation in multiple other sports.
Still, if Williams can meet its goals of maintaining focus, communication, and a positive attitude, it could find some success in a re-vamped Mid-Valley League, which includes Biggs, Hamilton City, Portola, and Quincy. –Â
