Fourteen teams with over 50 golfers hit the links at the Arbuckle Golf Club on July 17, supporting Pierce athletic programs at the Bear Pride Golf Tournament.

Now in its 11th year, the event, according to athletic director Michael Barber, proved to be a resounding success thanks to the generous contributions from Arbuckle and the surrounding community.

George Jimenez putts at the Bear Pride Golf Tournament on July 17 as Fred Jimenez looks on.

” In the four years Ive been part of hosting this tournament, it was, by a big margin, the most successful in terms of funds raised,” Barber said. ” Athletes took part in helping raise money, and we had about 40 local and county sponsors. Their generosity and support means a lot to our student athletes in helping continue building strong athletic programs.

As for the actual competition, Pierce alum and accomplished golfer Ben Geyer hit the longest drive and won the closest to the hole in addition to being part of the winning team. His team included Austin Bedart, Bobby Martinez, and George Tomasetti.

Those interested in competing or sponsorship at the annual event should contact Barber or head football coach Anthony Tapia. –
