While the 2020-21 school year began with online instruction and little hope for athletics, the schools comprising the Sacramento Valley League were ultimately able to organize and participate in abbreviated basketball, football and volleyball seasons.
Last week, the Pioneer Review highlighted the baseball and softball All-League performers, and in this edition, will recognize the athletes from Pierce and Colusa high schools that earned postseason honors in other sports.
Boys Basketball:

With a returning core of players that a year ago fell a game short of the state finals, hopes were high for the Pierce Bears to pick up where they left off and while it wasnt the season theyd hoped for, they took advantage of the opportunity finishing 8-3.
Over the course of the season, the Bears dominated their league opponents and received four spots on the All-SVL team, which went to seniors Justin Mathews, Eduardo Paiz, Luke Voorhees and Christian Mata.
Playing just five games, the Colusa RedHawks only loss came at the hands of the Bears while they twice bested both Winters and Sutter. Seniors Mason Saso and Drew Bradbury comprised Colusas two All-League selections.
Girls Basketball:

Pierce made a strong showing finishing 7-4 while facing some of the larger Northern Section schools and prevailed over its SVL opponents behind All-SVL performers sophomore Jocelyn Medina and junior Mayra Sanchez.
Colusa again making just five appearances went 2-3 with juniors Abby Myers and Reese Roper getting the All-League nod.
Football:

With the RedHawks opting out in 2021, the Bears were the lone county SVL team and after completing the season 2-3 overall and 1-2 in league play had seniors Mathews, Paiz, Voorhees, Eduardo Ambriz and Jesus Ruiz receive recognition.
Volleyball:

Pierce made the most of its shortened season, and despite playing the majority of its matches outside the SVL, was able to honor the contributions of five seniors including Betsy Myers, Sierra Murphy, Maria Rivera, Katie Williams and Ashlyn Wooldridge.–
