Letters to the Editor policy
The Colusa County Pioneer Review welcomes letters to the editor and encourages a range of viewpoints. Letters must be 300 words or fewer and are subject to editing for length, clarity and taste. Submissions will not be published if they contain crude or inflammatory language, personal attacks, discriminatory remarks, endorsements or complaints about specific products or services, poetry, or personal or commercial tributes. Letters must be written exclusively for the Pioneer Review and may not be previously posted online or submitted to other publications. Responses to prior letters or news stories should reference the headline and publication date. All letters must be signed and include the writer’s street or route address and telephone number for verification. Only the writer’s name and city of residence will be published. Anonymous letters will not be accepted. Letters are due by noon Friday for publication the following week and may be emailed to mpgcolusa@gmail.com
Arrest & Crime News policy
It is not the policy of the Colusa County Pioneer Review to remove names from the Police Blotter published on its website. Blotter information is provided by local law enforcement agencies as a matter of public record regarding police interactions. Individuals listed have been arrested on suspicion of the offenses indicated and are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. If charges are dismissed or reduced, or if a person is acquitted, the Pioneer Review will consider adding an update to the online Police Blotter after verifying official legal documentation. Supporting documents may be submitted to mpgcolusa@gmail.com.
Community Breif policy
The Colusa County Pioneer Review welcomes submissions announcing community events and activities. Due to limited staff and space, the newspaper reserves the right to edit or decline any submission. Community Briefs of 100 words or fewer will be considered for publication unless they contain material deemed inappropriate. Briefs must be submitted by email, fax or U.S. mail. Email submissions must be placed in the body of the message or attached as a Microsoft Word document. Other formats will not be accepted. Excessive spacing or tab formatting is not permitted and may result in rejection until corrected. Recurring briefs are published as space allows. The Pioneer Review may decline to publish any submission at any time. This is a free service and paid advertising takes precedence. Businesses may not submit briefs promoting sales, closures or grand openings unless coordinated through the local Chamber of Commerce. Community Briefs must be received at least three days prior to the deadline listed on the newspaper’s homepage or in print. Submissions may be emailed to mpgcolusa@gmail.com.
Article/Story Submission policy
The Colusa County Pioneer Review welcomes submissions of newsworthy events and press releases. Due to limited staff and space, the newspaper reserves the right to edit or decline any submission. Articles of 750 words or fewer will be considered for publication unless they contain material deemed inappropriate. Submissions must present a clear and timely news angle, include proper attribution and relate directly to the organization submitting the information. Content must be written in an objective tone and not in first person. Promotional or sales driven language will not be accepted. Press releases may not promote adult services, illegal products, scams, pyramid schemes or similar ventures. Duplicate submissions, excessive links and incomplete contact information will result in rejection. Each submission must include a valid email address and phone number and be at least 250 words. Articles and press releases must be received at least three days prior to the deadline listed on the newspaper’s homepage or in print. Submissions may be emailed to mpgcolusa@gmail.com.
Political letters policy
Effective Feb. 1, 2020, letters to the editor that support or oppose political candidates, campaigns, political parties or ballot measures are subject to a fee of $25 for the first 250 words and $10 for each additional 100 words. This includes letters that endorse or criticize a candidate, proposition or measure; discuss a candidate’s qualifications or faults; are submitted by a candidate, campaign staff member or volunteer; address an initiated measure or ballot issue; or clearly advocate for or against a political party. Political letters must include the author’s full name and city of residence. Submissions may be emailed to mpgcolusa@gmail.com.
