Colusa Girls Track Impresses at Durham Invite

Colusa’s Eloise Guerrero won the 3200 meter race at the Durham Invitational on March 27 and also took third in the 800 meters.

OROVILLE, CA (MPG) – Colusa’s girls track team found the conditions at Butte College’s Cowan Stadium to its liking last Friday as they dominated the competition at the Durham Invitational, outscoring second place CORE Butte 115-87.

Starting in the sprints, Kendall Marengo won both the 100 and 200 meters in personal record times of 12.88 and 26.19 respectively, Itzel Cruz won the 400 meters in career best 1:02.41, then came in second in the 200 with a time of 27.66, while Peyton Miller (13.33) took third in the 100 which was also her best effort thus far.

Marengo, Cruz and Miller were joined by Shaheen Orr in the 4×100 relay where the RedHawk quartet set a team record of 50.94 to win the race.

Colusa also made its presence known in the distance races with Eloise Guerrero won the 3200 crossing the line in a personal best time of 13:23.68, in addition to taking third in 800 with a 2:45.86, which was also a record time for the junior.

Other top finishers for the RedHawks included Orr (19.28-PB), who was second in the 100-meter hurdles and Abby Coronado (80-05-PB) with a bronze in the discus.

On the boy’s side for the RedHawks, Emi Guzman (53.83) raced to a second-place finish in the 400 meters.

Pierce’s JR Figueroa raced to a second-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles at West Valley’s Eagle Classic Relays held in Cottonwood on March 27.

Meanwhile, at West Valley’s Eagle Classic Relays in Cottonwood, which was also held on March 27, the Pierce boys turned in a strong effort.

JR Figueroa (16.59) was second in the 110-meter hurdles and Thomas Sweet (42-1.75) was second in the triple jump.

The Bears’ 4×100 relay team comprised of Noah Sucevich, Sweet, Jonathan Vasquez Hernandez and Nate Macintosh set another new team record with a 44.21, which was good for third.

Also in action last week was Maxwell, who participated at River Valley’s Third Annual Falcon Hype Invitational in Yuba City on Saturday, where Panther high jumper Tanner Vierra won the event after clearing the six-foot mark.

Maxwell is set to compete next at the Chico Invitational on April 11, while all three squads will be among the participants at the NorCal Small Schools Invitational on April 17 which will also be held at Chico High School.
