
COLUSA, CA (MPG) – Albeit early in the season, the young Colusa tennis team, comprised mostly of underclassmen, is serving notice that they are a force to be reckoned with after pushing its record to 3-0 overall with victories over Live Oak and Paradise Adventist Academy last week.
Outscoring Live Oak 7-2 in a match on Mar. 3, the RedHawks got singles wins from No. 1 Marcos Deniz (6-3, 6-2), No. 3 Gaven Recendez (6-2, 6-1), No. 4 Brock Prior (6-4, 6-0), No. 5 Jax Lay (6-3, 6-6 (7-1)) and No. 6 Jose Prieto Badilla (6-3, 6-6 (7-3)).
Colusa also took two of the doubles matches with the No. 1 duo of Deniz and Prior cruising 8-1, while Recendez and Lay prevailed 8-6.
Following up on Mar. 5 in Paradise, the RedHawks recorded a 6-3 triumph over PAA.
Deniz held off his opponent 6-4, 4-6, 10-6, Recendez (6-4, 6-4) and Prior (6-4, 6-0) logged relatively easy wins, while Lay (1-6, 6-4, 12-10) earned a hard-fought come from behind victory.
On the doubles courts, Deniz and Prior won 8-5, with the No. 3 pair of Samuel Fanti and Prieto Badilla edging their competition 8-6.
Looking to build on its momentum Colusa was in Quincy on Mar. 10 then returned home on Mar. 12 to host Paradise.
