COLUSA COUNTY, CA (MPG) – Last week was a good one for the RedHawk girls’ soccer team as they bested their county and Sacramento Valley League rivals Pierce and Williams by scores of 1-0 and 5-2 respectively.
Something that Colusa coach Rene Martinez attributes to the success is the chemistry his squad has developed saying, “We have some great individual assets, but they would not be as good without help from their teammates. This year the focus has been on trusting one another and working together as a team.”
Teamwork was essential in the 1-0 victory over Pierce on Feb. 3, as Natalee Stegall redirected a penalty kick into the net that was initially blocked by Bear goalkeeper Nita Rodrguez.

Although Pierce applied pressure in the second half in the form of set pieces, RedHawk goalkeeper Monica Guerrero, with assistance from the defense in front of her, kept a clean sheet.
Following up on Feb. 5 in the late match at McCarl Field against Williams, Colusa got a pair of braces from Stegall and Lizbet Ayala along with a single goal from Janell Garcia to secure the win with relative ease.

Sitting second in the SVL, the RedHawks (10-6, 5-2) finished off the regular season with a non-conference match in Maxwell on Feb.11, then hosted Willows the following day.
