‘Jackets Host Final Match Night of Season

WILLIAMS, CA (MPG) – All four county wrestling teams were joined by Biggs, Willows and Winters at the final match night of the regular season held at Williams High School on Jan. 28.

Competing in their home gym, the Yellowjackets’ Julian Camarena and Rafael Moreno both went unbeaten on the night.

In the 140-pound weight class, Camarena won all three of his matches by fall, while Moreno, at 157 pounds also defeated both his opponents by fall.

Pierce had three standout performances at the event, with freshmen Gary Hernandez and Ailize Saavedra going 3-0, while Adan Beltran was 2-0.

Hernandez won two of his bouts by technical falls and the other with a pin, Saavedra showed continued progress and intensity with Beltran setting himself apart with his awareness and technical move recall on the mat.

Colusa coach Ben Haney singled out Kayden Burtleson, a sophomore, who has found success at the varsity level as well as the girls on his squad for their aggressiveness which translated into wins.

For the Maxwell contingent, Lucas Bowen went 2-1, Robert Shadley won his only match and Colt Montgomery finished 1-1.

This week teams head to Winters on Saturday for the Sacramento Valley League Championship Tournament.
