Trio of Seniors Earn All-Section Football Honors

COLUSA COUNTY, CA (MPG) – With multiple Northern Section football teams playing extended seasons, the final accolades for 2025 have been awarded with the announcement of the All-Northern Section squads.

Among the top 50 players in the North State were Pierce’s Francisco Ruiz and Quin Stephens along with Maxwell’s Tanner Vierra.

Pierce kicker Francisco Ruiz was named to the 2025 All-Northern Section first team offense.

Ruiz, the Bears’ kicker, was named to the first team offense, after ending the year 31 for 32 on PATs, making good on 7 of 10 field goal attempts including one from 44 yards out and ultimately talling 52 points.

Stephens and Vierra both earned spots on the second team defense.

A fixture on the Bears’ line, Stephens finished his final season for Pierce with 40 tackles, including 25 for losses, 10 sacks and two forced fumbles.

Pierce’s Quin Stephens earned a spot of the All-Northern Section second team defense.

For his part, Vierra, who can hit with the best of them, registered 100 tackles, 12 of which were for losses, caused two fumbles and had one recovery.

Sports writers from MaxPreps, the Record Searchlight, the Enterprise-Record, the Appeal-Democrat, the Pioneer Review and the Red Bluff Daily News voted on the selections.

This year, as in volleyball, the football “Coach of the Year” has been renamed to honor a remarkable Northern Section coach with the choice being Anderson’s Bob Reid.

Maxwell’s Tanner Vierra was a second team All-Northern Section pick as a defensive back.

Despite retiring in 1999, Reid, who passed away on Nov. 16 at the age of 87, still holds the coaching record for wins with 219, which also includes four Northern Section championships, 13 Northern Athletic League crowns and seven undefeated seasons.
