Fast Times for MVL Harriers in Durham

DURHAM, CA (MPG) – A flat course at Durham High School made for fast times at the Mid-Valley League’s sixth regular season meet.

Williams’ Leonardo Esparza posted the best finish of the day among the local participants, completing the three mile course in a time of 19:25, which was a personal record and good for second place.

Behind Esparza was teammate Salvador Ruiz (20:42), who also set a personal best en route to a sixth place finish

Maxwell’s Evan Mathis (21:22) and Massey Baker (21:40) were eighth and ninth, respectively, with each crossing the line in their fastest time at the distance.
In the varsity girl’s race, Williams’ Jocelyn Santillan (29:47) was the lone local competitor and ended up fourth.

Showing that the future is bright for Maxwell, a pack of Panthers captured the top five places in the two mile JV boys contest.

Kaeden Stallcop (13:25) was first, edging out Vincent Orozco (13:28) in second, while Julio Chavez (14:12) was third, Karter Burt (14:43) was fourth and London Barrett (14:53) was fifth.

Maxwell’s Jayden Karlonas (16:51) won the JV girls race, which also saw the Yellowjackets’ Lorielle Contreras (19:01) take fourth.

MVL teams reconvened in Durham on Wednesday for a final tune-up prior to the league championship meet on Nov. 1.
