Football Roundup:  Colusa rolls, Maxwell and Williams fall

Colusa 38 – Live Oak 0

A shutout victory over the Lions made for a happy homecoming as the RedHawks remained unbeaten with just two games remaining in the regular season.

Coach Mikey Badaluco’s defense has been lights out thus far yielding just 51 total points, and for the second week in a row did not allow its opponent into the red zone.

At the heart of the defense is the linebacker crew, which includes Dominic Salazar, William McCoy, Julian Velazquez and Hayden McCarty, which according to Badaluco was once again outstanding.

Salazar was seemingly everywhere against the Lions making 14 solo tackles, assisting on four others and picking off two passes.

McCoy also was a menacing presence finishing with 11 tackles, while Isaiah Travis blocked a punt and recovered it in the end zone for a touchdown.

Colusa’s offense also gave the crowd plenty to cheer about, starting on the first play from scrimmage when Sutter Moss hauled in a 50- yard pass to put the first points on the board.

Quarterback Bo Coronado accounted for the RedHawks’ second touchdown of the night when he scored on a keeper then connected with Peyton Humphrey on scoring plays of 50 and 60 yards.

The RedHawks got their final points of the game on a 25-yard strike from Coronado to Travis in the fourth quarter.

Coronado continues to manage the offense efficiently and has displayed impressive accuracy finishing the game throwing for 245 yards and four touchdowns.

Badaluco singled out Humphrey for his play, particularly on offense where he made three catches for 114 yards.

This week could provide a test for RedHawks, as they travel to Winters to take on a well-coached Warrior squad that despite its overall 3-5 record, can’t be counted out of any contest.

Williams 14 – Willows 26

For the fifth time in eight games the ‘Jackets were limited to just a pair of touchdowns in a game, and as a result, suffered a homecoming loss to Willows in a Mid-Valley League match-up.

Again Williams struggled with the ground game, as quarterback Adrian Solis accounted for all but one of the Yellowjackets’ 76 rushing yards.

On the night Solis also completed 13 passes for 213 yards and two touchdowns.

Returning to the lineup after being out for the past two contests, Alan Rodriguez caught three balls for 63 yards and one of the touchdowns, while a Solis to Leo Trujillo connection produced the other scoring play.

Miguel Villanueva had a busy night hauling in five passes for 47 yards.

For the defense, Ty Howell made 13 tackles, including 11 solo, while Angel Munoz logged nine tackles and a fumble recovery.

Another tough task lies ahead for the ‘Jackets (2-6, 2-1) this week, when they head north to Weaverville where they will contend with the Trinity Wolves, a team averaging 375 yards and 36.4 points per game.

Maxwell 0 – Fall River 56

Travelling to McArthur to face perennial power Fall River last Friday, the Panthers couldn’t gain much traction against the unbeaten Bulldogs, who sit atop the standings in the Cascade Valley League.

In the shutout loss, Dillon Dry led the offensive effort with 26 rushing yards and 49 more through the air before leaving the game due to injury.

On defense for Maxwell Berto Lara and Rudi Gonzalez made six tackles each while, Isaac Iniguez collected five.

The Panthers (4-4, 3-3) hope to get back on track this week when they return home to face Quincy for homecoming.
