Volleyball Roundup Local teams strong at home

Williams 3 – Los Molinos 0  (10/11)

Williams 3 – CORE Butte 0  (10/13)

Williams continued to roll last week sweeping both Los Molinos and CORE Butte in home matches.

Against Los Molinos, after a close first set, the Yellowjackets dismantled the Bulldogs to come away with the 25-21, 25-4, 25-8 win, although no statistics from the match were available.

Hosting CORE Butte two nights later, the ‘Jackets, suiting up just six players, still made short work of the Lynx 25-15, 25-13, 25-14.

Mia Rivera struck for 10 kills, Trinity Tungasmita doled out 15 assists, and Ashley Garcia served five aces to lead Williams.

Additionally, Coach Darren Robinson pointed to the effort by Valeria Vargas who, due to the lack of available players, was pressed into playing middle.

“Val really stepped up for us because we didn’t have Alexa [Barrera] and Emily [Arreola],” said Robinson. “She did a great job for her first time ever playing front row in that position.”

Williams (16-7, 7-1) began the final week of the regular season on Oct. 18 with a showdown against Hamilton City, where the winner claimed the MVL title. The team heads to Biggs tonight for its final conference match.

Pierce 3 – Winters 0  (10/11)

Pierce 2 – Durham 3  (10/13)

The Bears kept their record in the Sacramento Valley League even at 6-6 last week after smashing Winters 25-8, 25-11, 25-7, then falling in a close match on the road in Durham 25-20, 17-25, 11-25, 25-21, 9-15.

Hailey Regnani had a huge night against Winters, finishing with 13 kills and 10 aces to lead Pierce.

Also having productive outings was Jamie Figueroa with 15 assists, seven aces and six digs, along with Cindy Corona, who logged six kills.

No statistics from the match against the Trojans were available.

Now, with an overall record of 10-18, Pierce rounded out the regular season this week by hosting Colusa on Tuesday. They travel to Live Oak tonight.
