SVL Cross Country Wraps Up Regular Season

COLUSA, CA (MPG) – In the final regular season meet of the year, Sacramento Valley League harriers made their way to the Colusa-Sacramento River State Recreation Area on Oct. 29 after having to relocate from a previously scheduled location in Solano County.

 

Host Williams captured the top spot in the varsity boys 5,000 meters, while Colusa took first place in the varsity girls’ race and swept the team competition as well.

 

For the second week in a row the Yellowjackets’ Manuel Santillan led the pack of varsity runners finishing in a time of 18:53.18 and ahead of Colusa’s Brian Sarabia (19:10.74) in second.

 

Pierce’s Adan Beltran (19:26.02) crossed the line fifth, Williams’ Phillip Santillan (20:27.66) was sixth and the RedHawks’ William Griffith (21:15.85) was seventh, while Colusa teammates Jose DeJesu Ramirez (22:41.27) and Jax Lay (22:43.51) were ninth and tenth respectively.

 

Last week also provided another exciting finish in the varsity girls race as the RedHawks’ Itzel Cruz (23:56.93) again out-ran the ‘Jackets’ Andrea Velazquez (23:59.93) in second and teammate Eloise Guerrero (24:04.71) in third.

 

Rounding out the Colusa contingent was Shaheen Orr (26:23.44) in sixth, Olivia Stever (27:04.44) in seventh, Jaylene Chavez (28:02.64) in eighth and Cristal Bruno (28:02.64) in tenth.

 

In the 2 mile JV contests, Pierce’s Jonathan Navarro (16:27.16) was third among the boys, while fellow Bears Victoria Brown (16:27.16-PR) and Jazmin Herrera (18:21.65-PR) were third and fifth in girls’ competition.

 

This week SVL teams reconvened in Colusa on Nov. 5 for the league championship.
