WINTERS, CA (MPG) – In Winters for the Sacramento Valley League’s second meet, Colusa, Pierce and Williams tried to hold off Willows and the host Warriors on the 5,000 meter course.
Colusa’s varsity girls team held off the Honkers 28-48 after Itzel Cruz (23:30.9-PR) crossed the line in first place followed by teammate Eloise Guerrero (23:32.6-PR) in third.
Rounding out the RedHawk team was Shaheen Orr (26:17.5-SR) in seventh, Olivia Stever (26:53.0-PR) in eighth and Cristal Bruno (27:02.8-PR) in ninth.
Williams’s Andrea Velazquez (23:32.3-PR) turned in a strong performance to finish in second place, while Pierce’s Dayami Villanueva (27:34.6-PR) was tenth.
Although Willows took the top two spots in the varsity boys contest, Williams’s Manny Santillan (18:26.9) returned to action and took third place ahead of Pierce’s Adan Beltran (18:27.3-PR) in fourth.
Colusa’s Brian Sarabia (18:46.3-PR) was sixth, Williams’s Phillip Santillan (19:43.7) was eighth in front of RedHawk teammates Marcos Deniz (20:19.4-PR) and William Griffith (20:25.2-PR) in ninth and tenth respectively.
Pierce swept the top five places in the JV girls 1.92 mile race with Olivia Dudley (15:21.6-PR) setting the pace, followed by Victoria Brown (15:39.6-PR), Cindy Rodriguez (16:31.6-PR), Alondra Lopez (17:07.1) and Jazmin Herrera (17:12.3-PR).
SVL competition continued on Oct. 22 when the local teams made their way to Stony Gorge Reservoir for a meet hosted by Willows.
