Football Roundup

Maxwell 49 – Los Molinos 7

In a rematch of last season’s Northern Section Division VI championship game, the Panthers left nothing to chance as they dominated the Bulldogs from the outset in a Mid-Valley League contest last Friday night on the road.

Maxwell quarterback Levi Velasquez continued to efficiently lead the Panther offense completing 12 passes for 213
yards.

“It was our best game of the year,” said head coach Lane Davis. “We were loose and having fun, but were disciplined on the field and didn’t make any real mental mistakes. I’m super proud of the way we played.”

The Panthers’ Luke Pearson had a big night against Los Molinos having finished with 129 receiving yards and
three touchdowns.

Davis said that the Panther defense keyed on Los Molinos fullback Wyatt Gillett, which proved to be sound strategy as the Bulldogs were never able to get on track offensively.

Maxwell’s Rosendo Salazar had a pick six in the Panthers blowout win over Los Molinos last week.

Landon Barrett spearheaded the effort finishing with a total of 14 tackles, Colt Montgomery and Tanner Vierra made 12 and 11 tackles respectively, while Vincent Orozco intercepted a pass.

Landon Barrett led the Panther defense to a win over Los Molinos after making 14 tackles in the game.

A special highlight for the defense was an interception by Rosendo Salazar, where the senior defensive back had a 67-yard pick six in which he weaved his way into the end zone.

For the Maxwell offense, which over that past five games, has averaged 53 points, Levi Velasquez continued to improve his command of the system completing 12 of 18 passes for 213 yards and three touchdowns.

Six of those balls were hauled in by Luke Pearson, who ended the night with 129 yards and two touchdowns receiving, then also ran one in for a score.

Winners of five straight, Maxwell (5-2, 3-0) kickoffs tonight against Portola (2-5, 1-3) in a homecoming game.

Williams 0 – Hamilton City 42

Facing unbeaten Hamilton City proved a tough order for the Yellowjackets as they fell in shutout fashion to the Mid-Valley League’s top team.

Held to just 116 yards of total offense, Williams got a team-high rushing yards of 51 from Azael Velazquez, although the ‘Jackets’ top ground gainer, Ricardo Medina, was held to just 27.

Defensively, Manuel Rolon intercepted a pass, while Medina and Julian Garcia had five tackles apiece.

Looking to put a stop to their two-game slide, the Yellowjackets (3-4, 1-2) head to Quincy tonight to take on the Trojans (2-4, 0-3).
