Colusa 29 – Durham 14

In the biggest win of rookie head coach Mason Niccum’s tenure, the RedHawks upset the Trojans on the road to earn their second win of the season and their first in the Sacramento Valley League.

 

“I’m just so happy for our guys, they played extremely well,” said Niccum. ” I know this is a shock to a lot of people, but we knew if we played well and continued to get better that this is the brand of football we could ultimately play.”

 

Eric Gonzales scored twice and forced a fumble, Mason Jennigs had two touchdowns and Asa Selover intercepted a pass to lead Colusa.

Colusa’s Eric Gonzales scored twice and recovered a fumble in the RedHawks’ 29-14 win over Durham.

 

Tonight, the RedHawks look to keep it going when they host Paradise (2-4, 1-1) at Larry Yeghoian Field.

 

 

Maxwell 42 – Quincy 7

For the second week in a row the Panthers piled it on a Mid-Valley League opponent.

 

Quarterback Levi Velazquez threw for 116 yards and a touchdown then ran for an additional 57, while Erik New, returning to the field for the first time in a month, carried 15 times for 115 yards and two scores to spearhead the offense.

New also recorded a team-high 10 tackles, with Tanner Vierra, Luke Pearson and Colt Montgomery each picking off a pass.

 

Maxwell (4-2, 2-0) hits the road tonight to face Los Molinos (3-3, 1-2) in a rematch of last seasons’ Northern Section Division V title game which was won by the Bulldogs.

 

 

Pierce 42 – Willows 0

It was a happy homecoming for the Bears who held visiting Willows to just seven total yards to pitch a shutout for the second week in a row.

 

Austin Jorge had a big night, throwing for three touchdowns, rushing for another and then returning one of his two interceptions for a pick six.

score.

Devin Garcia and JR Figueroa each was on the receiving end of a touchdown pass, as was Nate Macintosh, who also ran for another score.

 

Pierce (7-0, 3-0) has a bye this week and will return to action on Oct. 24 in Paradise.

 

 

William 13 – Portola 17

A long trip to Portola did the Yellowjackets no favors as they came up short against the Tigers in a Mid-Valley League affair.

 

For the second week in row Ricardo Medina eclipsed the 100-yard mark rushing after carrying 26 times for 135 yards and a touchdown.

 

Matthew Cercantes also scored but Williams, who had a tough time receiving, was also stopped multiple times in the red zone by the Portola defense in the second half.

 

In spite of the loss, Julio Rosales had a huge night finishing with 18 total tackles, 13 of which were solo and additionally intercepted a pass.

Williams (3-3, 1-1) has a tough task this evening when it hosts unbeaten Hamilton City (7-0, 3-0) tonight at McCarl Field.
