Life is Good: It’s Been a Great Week

It has been a great week. My niece, Sonya, was here from California, and she fell in love with North and South Dakota.

Things we sometimes take for granted continued to amaze her.

Our friends and family stepped up to share their knowledge and hospitality. Maria Frank introduced her to her horses. A visit to Don and Chris Fulton’s farm delighted Sonya as she fed and petted the Highland cows. She is a true animal lover and was equally excited to meet the barn cats and goats.

My daughter, Tiffany, took us on a drive through Theodore Roosevelt National Park, where we saw a good-sized herd of bison up close as they ran alongside our cars. It was pretty exciting.

In South Dakota, she visited Chapel in the Hills and Mount Rushmore.

She was also blown away by the Medora Musical. It is excellent this year.

I also took her to Devils Tower. It is always a magical wonder to see.

Sonya has experienced a lot of sadness over the past two years. I promised her a visit that would make her smile, and I think it did.

The Spirit of the West and All-School Reunion was held in Beach this past weekend.

To my delight, my grandson Vaughn entered his 1979 Trans Am in the car show. It is his first car and his first car show. It made me smile watching him proudly display it.

His dad had a Trans Am when he was in high school, so it has been special to watch Vaughn follow in his father’s footsteps. Owning a classic car takes work and a good source of knowledge. His dad has been helping and teaching him along the way. It does my heart good to see the smiles on both of their faces.

Life is good today.
