Life is busy.
Our phones buzz. The to-do list grows longer. The news never seems to stop, and even relaxing can start to feel like another item on the schedule.
Sometimes, what we really need is permission to slow down. The library has always been a place to learn, but it is also a wonderful place to simply…be.
Pull up a comfortable chair and spend a few minutes with today’s newspaper or your favorite magazine. Sit by a window with a coloring sheet and a box of colored pencils. Work on a puzzle one piece at a time. Challenge a friend to a board game. Browse the shelves with no particular book in mind and see what catches your eye. There is no deadline, no score to keep, and no expectation that you leave having accomplished anything more than taking a well-earned break.
This summer, we’re especially grateful for a generous puzzle donation from long-time Colusa resident and business owner John Moran. As John begins his retirement and has closed the doors of his framing shop after many years of serving our community, his thoughtful gift gives library visitors another way to cool off, unwind, and enjoy a quiet moment.
While the closing of a longtime local business is a loss for our community, we wish John all the best in retirement and thank him for a donation that will continue serving neighbors in a new way. His puzzles are available for visitors of all ages to enjoy while spending time at the library, offering the simple satisfaction of finding just the right piece.
Libraries have always been more than books. They are places to gather your thoughts, recharge, enjoy a conversation, or simply spend a peaceful afternoon. You can read the newspaper, flip through a magazine, work on a puzzle, color for a while, play a game, or simply sit in the air conditioning and enjoy a quiet moment. Sometimes the best reason to visit isn’t to check something out at all. It’s to give yourself an hour with nowhere else to be.
So, next time the summer sun is blazing, stop by the library. Read a magazine. Color outside the lines. Put together a puzzle. Play a game. Visit with a neighbor. Stay awhile.
We’ll save you a seat.
