Life is Good: Shame

I’m neither Republican nor Democrat. I’m an Independent. But first, I’m an American.

I value American principles. I respect my flag, my country and the office of the president. You may not like the president, but respect the office.

I am ashamed of the behavior of some elected officials, elected to protect us, who can’t even commit to making the well-being of American citizens their first priority.

Refusing to attend the State of the Union address, holding alternative events or, even worse, attending and screaming at the president is not the sign of a true leader.

To quote Forrest Gump, “Stupid is as stupid does,” as Mama always says.

There are a lot of troubling things going on in our country.

In the 1940s, suspected Communists were put on trial as threats to our nation. Today, openly admitting Socialists, with what some see as similar ideas, are being elected to public office. That is concerning.

I don’t know about everyone else, but I am tired of supposed adults elected by us and for us acting like children. Not just children, but bratty children. It’s time to take inventory and weed out the most spoiled.

Which brings me to showing identification to vote. I have never voted without showing ID. It’s not a big deal if you are actually an American citizen.

I have to show ID to board a plane, deposit money into my own bank or even check into a hotel. It’s for my protection as much as it is for everyone else’s.

Being asked for this verification has never seemed racist or demeaning to me as a woman.

When I got my first passport, I had to produce proof of why I used my name. Not a problem, because I had nothing to hide.

It may take a little effort for some, but just do it. If you can legally vote in this great country, it is worth your time.

It’s time to return to our Founding Fathers’ goals for our nation.

We live in the greatest nation in the world.

Let’s save it and make life better today.
