I’m always amazed when I hear new trends bordering on the absurd.
Have you heard about the idea of charging your guests for Thanksgiving dinner? I don’t think so!
As in most families, my guest always lend a hand and provide appetizers, side dishes and desserts. We all have things we like to prepare and contribute. I’m certainly not going to be charging at the door.
I started the prep yesterday. It is easier for me to do as much as I can ahead of time.
I’ve in the past hosted 40 plus people. Now our usual group is nine. It’s a special day. I need only look around the table to count the blessings in my life.
We should be thankful year around. Thanksgiving is an annual reminder of things we are most grateful for.
I have a turkey platter. I use it one time a year so baring any accidents it will last as long as I do. It belonged to my mother. So on that onetime a year that I use it I’m reminded of dinners gone by. We had a dining room but not enough chairs for everyone. The dining table was filled with traditional dishes and of course ‘the platter’. The overflow of guests ate in the kitchen or on tv trays in the living room.
It was loud and it was delicious. The house was filled with wonderful aromas and especially with love. We were not wealthy but we were blessed by family
love.
So, when once a year I use my mother’s turkey platter I remember. I remember just how lucky I have been.
I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.
Life is good today.
