We are officially snowbirds.
We bought a vacation home in California.
We will skip over most of the snow months away from North Dakota.
After slipping on the ice and trying for months to get back to normal, I’m ready to pass on ice and snow.
I’ve discovered that life choices change as we age and move from one chapter of life to the next.
Young me would never have thought to avoid winter.
Old me is paranoid about falling again.
I’m ready for my snowbird chapter.
I thought I was done buying houses. I have always loved buying houses, cars, coats and shoes. I guess I had one more house purchase in me.
I’m hoping that I’m driving my last car that I’ll buy. But then again, the last two cars were totaled; one by a deer, the second by hail.
I am happily planning and exploring options on things we might need in the California house.
I always love a project. To me the planning is half of the fun.
Daughter Velvet and I are planning our next adventure. It’s a big one, so I’m happily spending the next year researching our options.
We need to keep busy. It would be so easy to give in to boredom and just take a nap.
I’ve had some challenges this year. But I will not give up.
This past week we took time to remember our fallen soldiers.
As in every year, I recall our friend Mike Pogue. We all grew up together in Colusa County. We graduated high school and made choices for our next chapter. Mike’s path led him to the military and to Vietnam.
It was a sad day when we learned Mike was gone. Forever in our memories and in our hearts.
Because of Mike’s and other’s sacrifices we have had the freedom to make choices and move to the next chapter time and again.
Life is good today.
